Traffic offenses in Nevada can be criminal violations punishable as misdemeanor offenses or civil infractions subject to civil procedures. Please review the citation issued to you and compare to our Criminal and Civil Infraction lists for specific information about your case.

Failure to take action on any Civil Infraction by the 90-day response date will result in a default judgment. You will be found in violation of the cited infraction(s), the corresponding fines and penalties will be assessed, and the case can no longer be contested.

Civil Traffic Infractions

If you were cited for a civil traffic infraction, you have 90 days from your citation date to take one of the following actions:

Pay and Close your Case

Paying your civil infraction fine prior to contesting the case is referred to as a "Post and Forfeit". In doing this, you will be found in violation of the civil infraction(s). Conviction(s) for the corresponding infraction(s) will automatically report to the Department of Motor Vehicles. You may not "undo" or "reverse" the conviction from a Post and Forfeit. You can make your payment to close the case by clicking the link below:

  • Online Payments - Post and Forfeit is NOT the same as posting bond when contesting your violation.

Contest Your Case

If you wish to contest the civil infraction(s) and appear in Court before a Judge, a bond, equal to the ticketed fine amount(s) must be posted prior to a court date being set. You may request a hearing either in person or online through the Virtual Clerk before the “appear by” date listed on your citation.

Set up Traffic School, Community Service, or a Payment Plan

If you wish to admit fault to the cited infraction(s) and resolve the matter without going to Court, you may be eligible to attend traffic school, set up community service, or set up a payment plan. Requests must be received within the 90-day response date. Requests can be processed with a Court Clerk in person or online through the Virtual Clerk link above.

Traffic School: Before completing any course, you must confirm your eligibility and receive prior approval. Completing a traffic safety school course may result in a demerit point reduction. Proof of course completion and full payment of any fine(s) are due on or before the 90-day response date.

Community Service: The Court will offer community service hours in lieu of fine payment as a means to resolve your citation. Community service hours must be performed at an agency on the court-approved provided list.

Payment Plans: If you are unable to pay your fines in full before the 90-day response date, the Court offers payment agreements for monthly installments.

Criminal Traffic Violations

If you were cited for a Criminal Traffic Violation, you may have the following options online:

Pay and Close your Case

Paying your criminal infraction fine prior to contesting the case is referred to as a "Post and Forfeit". In doing this, you will be found in violation of the criminal infraction(s). Conviction(s) for the corresponding infraction(s) will automatically report to the Department of Motor Vehicles should you choose to Post and Forfeit. You may not undo the conviction from a Post and Forfeit.
