Director of Public Safety Dispatch
Cody Shadle was appointed as the City of Reno's Director of Public Safety Dispatch in June 2023. The Public Safety Dispatch Department provides regional emergency (9-1-1) and non-emergency communications for the citizens of Reno and dispatch services for the Reno Fire Department, Reno Police Department, Reno Municipal Court Marshals, University Police Department (Northern Command) and the Reno Tahoe International Airport Fire Department.
Shadle began with the City of Reno in September 2008, originally hired as a Public Safety Call-Taker. He subsequently was promoted to Dispatcher in 2009 and again to Public Safety Dispatch Supervisor in 2015. During this time, Shadle held roles as a Certified Training Operator (CTO), Incident Dispatcher and was recognized as an Emergency Number Professional by the National Emergency Number Association (NENA). In 2021, while under the Reno Police Department, Shadle was promoted to Public Safety Dispatch Manager. Shortly after, he oversaw the reorganization of Public Safety Dispatch as a standalone department, as well as, the expansion of dispatch services to the Reno Tahoe Airport Fire Department.
Shadle is an advocate for overhauling and improving the 9-1-1 system and aims to achieve an improved experience for the caller in crisis. When he is away from work he can be found spending time with his wife and young son in the garden or out in Nevada's backyard, either way most likely covered in dirt.
