The City of Reno maintains all of the traffic signals within the city limits, including traffic signals on state highways. If you have a traffic signal concern, please complete a Traffic Engineering Request for Service.
The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) in a cooperative project with the City of Reno, City of Sparks, Washoe County, Nevada Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration are working to retime signals throughout the region. The Regional Traffic Signal Operations Improvement project is designed to reduce number of stops and waiting times at intersections. Approximately 1/3 of the City’s traffic signals were retimed as part of this project using federal Capacity Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) funds. The plan is to procure yearly CMAQ funding to retime approximately 1/3 of the City’s signals on an annual basis. It is recommended that traffic signal timing be updated every 3 to 5 years.
