Midterm Election Voting Checklist
Make sure you’re registered to vote at your current address through the Nevada Secretary of State's website.
Decide how you are going to vote this year:
Vote early by mail
- Mail-in ballots are automatically sent out to each Nevada registered voter.
- Mail-in ballots must be postmarked on or before November 8th. Ballots can also be dropped off at an Early Voting Vote Center or Election Day Vote Center drop box.
Find a location through the Registrar of Voters.
Vote early in person.
- Early Vote Centers are open October 22 - November 4 for in person early voting.
Find your local vote center through the Registrar of Voters.
Vote in person on Election day, November 8. Snap a selfie with your #iVoted sticker and share it on social to encourage your friends to do the same!
Key 2022 Midterm Election Dates
- October 11: Last day to register to vote or update your existing registration by mail, in person, or through an outside agency. You can still register online here or through same day voter registration at vote centers.
- October 25: Last day to register to vote or update your existing registration online using standard
registration. You can still register to vote after this date using same day voter registration. - October 19: Mail-In Ballots will be mailed to in-state voters no later than October 19th, 20 days prior to Election Day.
- October 22 - November 4: Early Voting period. Any Washoe County voter may vote or drop off their mail-in
ballot at any Early Voting Vote Center within Washoe County. - October 26 - November 4 & November 8: Voters who still need to register to vote can do same day voter
registration either in person or online. Voters can register in person at any Early Voting Vote Center or Election Day Vote Center. - November 8: Election Day. Vote Centers throughout Washoe County will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. for voting in person or dropping off a mail-in ballot.
Voters in Washoe County may vote at any Vote Center in Washoe County. Mail-In Ballots must be postmarked on or before Election Day and received in our office no later than November 12th.
Filing Period
- Judicial & Non-Judicial Candidate Filing: March 7 - March 18, 2022
- In a special Legislative session held on November 2021, both houses of the Legislature unanimously voted on AB1 which temporarily revised the deadline for candidacy filings for judicial offices.
Appointments are available and highly recommended. Please email the Reno City Clerk Mikki Huntsman at cityclerk@reno.gov or call 775-334-2030 to schedule your appointment. Walk-in candidate filing will be accepted, however, appointments are preferred, and will be taken first.
Filing fees must be paid with cash, cashier’s check, or money order
- JUDICIAL FILING FEE: $100.00
- NON-JUDICIAL FILING FEE: $30.00

Candidate Qualifications
Councilmembers
- Must be a resident of the ward they represent, or if representing the City at large, a resident of the City of Reno, for at least 30 days prior to the last date for candidate filing. Councilmembers elected by ward must continue to live within that ward for the term of office.
- In January 2022, the Reno City Council approved the redistricting of the 5 Reno Wards. Please verify candidacy eligibility through our interactive Ward Map.
- Must be a qualified elector within the City.
Municipal Court Judge
- Must be an attorney licensed to practice law in the State of Nevada.
- Must be a resident of the City of Reno for at least 30 days prior to the last date for candidate filing.
- Shall not engage in the private practice of law.
- Must be a qualified elector within the City.
