At its regularly scheduled meeting, on June 28, 2022, the Cannabis Compliance Board (CCB) approved the passage of Nevada Cannabis Compliance Regulation 15, which governs the licensure and operation of Cannabis Consumption Lounges (“Lounges”) in Nevada. On September 14, 2022, Reno City Council directed staff to gather information from the public regarding community support and/or concern related to the possible legalization of Lounges in the City of Reno.

Accordingly, staff held two public hybrid meetings, at which time information was presented regarding state law and regulation as well as what options the City has if Lounges are legalized in the City. Staff gathered community stakeholder feedback until December 9, 2022.

Information gathered by staff through the public meetings and written submissions will be compiled and presented to City Council on January 25, 2023 at the regular meeting, at which time staff will ask for direction on a code amendment.

Information regarding the state regulation of cannabis can be found at the CCB website. Based on information published by the CCB on November 30, 2022, no provisional licenses were issued for retail or independent cannabis consumption lounges in Reno. More information is available on the CCB website and social media.
