The City of Reno and its residents have a strong commitment to sustainability. Together, we have made great strides on environmental, economic and social priorities. In fact, Reno was ranked No. 33 Greenest City in America in 2022 by WalletHub after a comparison of the top 100 cities and is among the lowest in the nation for per capita emissions.

The City of Reno previously used the STAR Communities Rating System® (STAR) to track our progress toward sustainability. In 2017, the City of Reno was recognized as a Certified 3-STAR Community. That effort led to our first Sustainability Report. Among the findings were increased access to affordable housing, improved community health, expanded use of public and alternative modes of transportation, and strengthened civil and human rights.

STAR Communities eventually became LEED for Cities and Communities. The City of Reno is LEED for Cities - LEED Gold Certified. We continue to use the LEED for Cities process as a roadmap for success
