The City of Reno Arts & Culture Commission (RACC), in partnership with the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County, NV and community partners, worked to develop a large-scale public art project at the intersection of Oddie and Silverada Boulevards that reflects the community and identity of the area in conjunction with a street reorientation project led by RTC.
The project will create connectivity between Reno and Sparks and will encourage economic development, enhance safety, and improve livability in the corridor. The location for public art sculptural work will be at both the NW and SW corners of Oddie and Silverada Boulevards.
Artist Selection
The public process started in early 2023 with an open call for qualifications from which the City of Reno Arts & Culture department with the Reno Arts and Culture Commission selected three artists teams, John Flemming, Peter Hazel and Christopher Weed to develop proposals for public art to be installed at both the NW and SW corners of Oddie and Silverada Boulevards.
- March 2023 - City of Reno Arts & Culture and the RACC surveyed the community via online survey to guide the selection of artists/artists teams.
- October 2023 - Initial Community input session held at Teglia’s Paradise Park Activity Center to gather feedback to assist finalist in developing their final artwork proposals.
- November 2023 - Second Community Input Survey. Public input survey was conducted to inform the artists in the development of their proposals.
- Fall of 2023 - City of Reno Arts & Culture made video recordings of finalist presentations available and solicited community input via a survey.
-
December 2023 - The three finalist artists, John Fleming, Peter Hazel, and Christopher Weed, will each present their vision for the future public art to be designed for Oddie and Silverada Boulevards.
