Gallery West in the McKinley Arts & Culture Center is proud to host ‘Heart and Soul,” a collection of portraiture by the members of the Portrait Society of Reno. The pieces shown are as diverse as the artists who created them and as their subjects. The portraits range from life-size paintings to small, intimate sketches. Gentle pastels are in abundance along with paints, graphite, and a host of other media. Each work tells a brief but profound story of the subject’s life – a long history captured in a moment and preserved for posterity.
The Reno Portrait Society has been gathering to practice the fine art of portraiture for over 50 years. The society was officially incorporated in 2000. Some of the most accomplished artists in the Reno area have been members of the Portrait Society. They meet weekly to practice their skills with a live model. The Reno Portrait Society is dedicated to the appreciation of, and education in, the art of portraiture.
