Citizens can learn about the Reno Police Department by attending our Citizens Police Academy, usually offered each Fall and Spring for 12 weeks. Also, Reno businesses and organizations can request presentations in several areas of law enforcement and crime prevention to educate both citizens and employees. Some presentations are available for children, to familiarize them with what police officers do, and to educate them and help them to avoid dangerous and negative situations.

The Department can help citizens establish a Neighborhood Watch if this program meets the needs of their area.

The Department offers several special events, including the Cops and Kids Picnic, held in cooperation with the Truckee Meadows Boys and Girls Club, and the annual Christmas Bike Give-Away Children's Program.
