Civil Division

The Civil Division provides a full range of effective and economical legal services to the City in order to protect the City's legal interests and reduce its legal liability. The Civil Division represents the City in litigation ranging from simple personal injury cases to complex civil rights litigation and wrongful death cases.

The division also serves as in-house counsel for all City boards, commissions, departments, and the City Council which includes providing legal advice on a day to day basis ranging from answering simple questions to drafting and reviewing complex legal documents. The division also serves as in-house counsel to the Redevelopment Agency and handles some litigation for that agency.
