Julee’s work touches everyone in the Reno community in one way or another, whether they visit a local park, enjoy a concert at Wingfield Park or take a stroll on an open space area trail, participate in a recreational program or view public art. The programs Julee leads contribute to the overall quality of life for Reno residents.
Julee began as Director of Parks, Recreation and Community Services in 2008 with more than 25 years of experience in Nevada, California and Oregon. She leads a team that oversees parks and park maintenance, pools, community centers, recreation programs, after-school latch-key programs, school vacation break activities, urban forestry, a municipal golf course, public art, cultural sponsorships, and special events.
Julee believes the City’s parks and recreation programs have a tremendous impact on youth by encouraging them to participate in supervised, fun activities instead of choosing more destructive behavior like drugs and alcohol. Her department also employees youth in about seasonal 400 part-time jobs annually totaling about $2.8 million dollars, which contributes to employment dollars supporting Reno’s economic vitality.
