Reno resident dies after being transported to California burn center

Post Date:07/30/2014 10:37 AM
Michelle Sherman, 61, died at a California burn center early yesterday morning, according to the Reno Fire Department. Sherman, a Reno resident, sustained severe burns in a residential structure fire in south Reno late Sunday night.

Neighbors pulled Sherman from the burning structure. Firefighters and REMSA paramedics treated Sherman, who had second-degree burns to half her body, at the scene. Sherman was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center and eventually flown to the University of California, Davis burn center.

Reno Fire Department engine six was dispatched at 11 p.m. on Sunday, July 27, and arrived to find fire and smoke confined to a two-story townhome in the 7600 block of Rhinestone Circle, east of the Longley Lane and South Virginia Street intersection.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

In addition, one nearby resident and one firefighter were treated for heat-related injuries.
